31 Tags of Halloween: Day 17

I woke up so tired this morning and feeling icky. Thinking I have a kidney stone or something...let's leave it at that. Anywho, I'm really grateful that I had the sense to leave all of my supplies in my tote bag because I had no ideas for a card. I flipped through my Tim Holtz Seasonal Salvage Stickers and decided to use a couple of them. There are barely any photos today but I'll give supplies, etc. Supplies I used are a tag, Distress Ink in Crushed Olive and Black Soot, Tim Holtz Halloween paper stash, two stickers, Glossy Accents, and ribbon. First, I inked the entire tag in Crushed Olive. I cut out a strip of paper with ravens on it and then edged it in Black Soot and the tag. I punched out the hole with a standard hole punch and glued it to the tag with Glossy Accents. Next, I edged the Halloween sticker in Black Soot and added Glossy Accents to the back of it to keep it in place on the tag. I added it vertically on the green side. When that dried, I edged t...

31 Tags of Halloween: Day 13

Happy Friday the 13th! I'm still not feeling fantastic so I decided to make a somewhat easier tag for today. I grabbed Tim Holtz Halloween stash paper, my second favorite Tim Holtz Halloween paper doll of the little boys with their jack o' lanterns, Glossy Accents, Distress Markers in Ripe Persimmon and Black Soot, Distress Ink in Black Soot, Tim Holtz Halloween Trimmings, Tim Holz Halloween Typography letters and a tag. First, I traced out the tag onto the patterned paper and cut it out. I glued it to the tag with Glossy Accents and punched out the hole with a standard hole punch. Next, I colored the jack o' lanterns on the paper doll with Ripe Persimmon. I rubbed off the excess with a cotton swab and then I edged the paper doll in Black Soot Distress Marker. I added Glossy Accents to the back and added it to the bottom of the tag. Next, I arranged my letters to spell out 'TRICK OR TREAT.' Now, I know nothing is perfect, but I really wanted the le...

31 Tags of Halloween: Day 5

What a day! I woke up feeling not-so-great and then I couldn't decide on today's tag. After looking through the Tim Holtz paper dolls again, I finally decided this group of costumed kiddos was the winner. I used a tag, Distress inks in Carved Pumpkin and Black Soot. I used a Tim Holtz Paper Doll and used the words left from the adorable trick-or-treater die. Glossy Accents was my go-to glue and and I used Tim Holtz Trimmings. First off, I inked the card with Carved Pumpkin. I added Black Soot to the edges and smudged it in around the body of the tag.  Next I edged the paper doll in black marker, added squiggles of Glossy Accents to the back, and glued it in place. I added Glossy Accents to the back of the cut-out words and added them in place, pretty much eyeballing their location. I added the black and orange twine and called this project done!

Maker's Monday: Always Check Your Candy

I've been a bad blogger and missed Free Fiction Friday. Let's just say, life got in the way a lot last week. For today's Maker's Monday, I had a nice how to for a bunch of neat tags I made, but my photos won't upload so I just put together this sweet little tag that pays homage to one of my all-time favorite Halloween movies...Trick 'r Treat! When I first saw the Sizzix Thinlit "Trick or Treat" die by Tim Holtz, I imagined the victims of the Halloween School Bus Massacre and knew I'd be making something like this tag. I can almost hear Mr. Wilkins tell Charlie to "Always check your candy." As with life, there were many hiccups along the way of making this tag. I had gotten only a few die cuts made when my machine broke. I'm still in a bit of shock and possibly denial. RIP Vagabond! There were also several elements that I thought would look awesome that ended up not wowing me. Supplies: 1 craft tag (I used Ranger Inkssentials, s...

A sentimental post on a dreary October afternoon

Earlier this morning, a roar of thunder shook my office and I got to thinking of all the times it rained on Halloween when I was growing up. Many years, it kept us home. Back then, it was the end of the world but looking back as an adult, I have to give my mom credit for carting six kids into town in the station wagon to let them run slightly amok with the other trick-or-treaters. The weather report says we're due for temps in the high seventies on Halloween and I hope its true. I love seeing the kiddos come up to the house, even though I usually turn candy duty over to the hubby. (he's truly a kid at heart) Halloween is more special to me than any other holiday. Its a night where you welcome a total stranger to your door. To me it isn't always the scare or the costume or the candy. I know the origins of the holiday and what it evolved into in the US. For me, its neighbors being neighborly. Its sharing your bounty. Its a sense of trust and goodness. Its a childlike sens...
